Photo Frames For The Art Enthusiast

Many people enjoy collecting fine art.  Beautiful pieces of artwork can be displayed in the home or office if they are prepared with the appropriate picture frames.  For those who own many fine art photographs or paintings, it can save money to learn how to frame your artwork yourself.  It is a fairly simple matter to do so, especially when you keep picture frame supplies on hand that can include ready-made photo frames, mat and mount board used with picture frames, as well as hinging tape or photo corners.  With these basics at the ready, you will be prepared to frame new artwork that you may acquire, allowing you to display it professionally where and how you wish.

The type of picture frame supplies you choose will depend in part on the type of artwork you want to frame as well as your personal preferences.  If you are framing fine art photography, then traditionally this type of artwork is framed in metal photo frames.  The metal is black in color, slender yet strong and durable, and is often paired with a wide-width white mat board.  These types of matted photo frames help to draw the viewer’s eye toward the center of the frame, where the attention is placed on the artwork itself.  Using photo frames in this manner enables the artwork to star while the frame plays an important supporting role to help set off the artwork for the viewer’s enjoyment.

Other important framing supplies include the mount board, upon which the artwork is placed in order to stabilize it so that it will lie smoothly in the frame.  Better mountboard framing supplies are crafted from foam core.  This is a lightweight but very smooth material, and thus it is a good choice in these framing supplies that will often be hung at a height on a wall.

It also bears mention that the best picture frame supplies are created from acid-free materials.  Acids are found in wood products such as paper, and they can, over time, damage the surface of a piece of artwork that is inside a frame.  Yellowing and discoloration caused by acids can wreak havoc with the delicate surface of a photograph, for example.  To avoid this, it is a good idea to purchase museum or conservation-quality framing supplies, which are acid free and help to promote the longevity of your expensive artwork.

You can learn more about picture framing and the wide variety of supplies and photo frames that are available conveniently by visiting an online fine-art photography frame supplier.

A tripod is also helpful in achieving precise framing of the image, or when more than one image is being made of the same scene, for example when bracketing the exposure. 5. Use of a tripod may also allow for a more thoughtful approach to photography. For all of these reasons a tripod of some sort is often necessary for professional photography as well as certain video uses. Tripods are also used to support small to medium-sized telescopes, large firearms, handheld optics (like binoculars), spotting scopes, and similar applications.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Stained Glass & Lightscreens

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Stained Glass & Lightscreens

$203.65

In captivating color photography and well-researched commentary, Tom Heinz captures the essence of Frank Lloyd Wright’’s genius and his fascination with the interplay of light and shadow in an exquisite representation of Frank Lloyd Wright’’s lighting treatments.Frank Lloyd Wright’’s Stained Glass & Lightscreens features not only Wright’’s iridescent stained glass but a sweeping range of his lightscreens, Wright’’s term for his designs that capture the essence of both light and shadow. These screens were not intended to obscure the window view but to modify and focus it through framing. Wright’’s abstraction of patterns and geometry from nature–plants and flowers–resulted in imaginative stained-glass designs. While he is best known for his stained glass set in metal frames, he also created screens in cut wood, concrete, and terra-cotta. Thomas A. Heinz, AIA, has been involved with the restoration of more than forty Frank Lloyd Wright buildings and is the author of twenty books on Wright. He is also coauthor with Randell L. Makinson and principal photographer for Greene and Greene: The Blacker House and Greene and Greene Creating a Style. He lives in Mettawa, Illinois.
